open for business

And, we’re open! The gallery is up and running. Have you ever gone to a gallery during their normal hours when there isn’t a special function? Didn’t think so. I’ve been to a few and I’m the only one in there besides whoever is chained to the desk at the moment. Now I’m chained to the desk. With a slow, slow, slow trickle of art-lookers. I need better signage out front.

The opening went well. More friends came than any kind of contacty-networky-people. I’m already learning things: There’s a LOT that goes into curating, and I have about a $0 budget. I can do really interesting things with this space, and this will be the least impressive display here. Ever. (Not the art, the presentation.) I have to pick and choose my battles better. I need to costco-up on pens for the guest book, and in general, because they always get taken. Damn pen-eaters.

And the most relevant thing I’ve learned today: hangovers are easier to deal with when you’re a gallerista as opposed to a fashionista, barista or waitressista. (Sorry, that one was a stretch.)
