nightcap

This weekend taught me about how fun sleep deprivation can be. I used to live off of minimal sleep (where 6 hours was a joyful rarity). Staying up for a couple days at a time (even sober sometimes!) was nothing and I would get up Monday and be functional. No longer the case.
Saturday I helped put on a kinda sophisticated-ish after hours event (Nightcap) at my/the space. It went well (enough to do more of them), but it left me feeling like I was out raving for days like a kid with the body of a grandma. Right around the 24 hour point, I started to fade. I wasn’t gonna pass out, but my abilities to do anything other than observe my environment were out of commission.
But before the sleep dep, the event was amazing. Imagine this: me running around all day buying a keg, plastic martini glasses, rolls of raffle tickets, serving trays and an assortment of other odds-and-ends. After hours of this, I got to the studio and did what I could to help out. After I got ready (the hostesses wore fancy-pants dresses), we realized that there wasn’t enough beer. So, wearing heels and a ball gown, I left the studio and drove a couple blocks to the yummy Elysian to get another keg. Saturday night on Capitol Hill, one of the hot spots for dinner packed with people and there I was with my hair all foofy, half a pound of make-up on, getting another keg. And this was after going to the grocery store, in the same get up, to get martini olives and ice.
Things got rolling and all was well. It was hectic, but any first-time event is. Mondays and Tuesday I was useless. I spent the rest of the week recovering from the sporadic alcohol intake during my lack of sleep. Note to self: next time, sleep as soon as everyone leaves.
