i just noticed

I haven’t linked to a single news story or written anything other than little daily tidbits and recapping Moab for a while now. I was trying to figure out why, and here’s what I came up with:

  • I’ve barely read one news story all the way ’til the end since I got back.
  • Every time I read something, I get horribly sad, or maniacally cynical.
  • I’m working on a story that’s kinda about the war, so I feel I’m informed enough.
  • I’m still in vacation mode. I don’t want to know that my government is concerning itself with the killing of people and instead of hiding it, they’re making sure it’s everywhere.
  • My friends are in vacation mode. That encourages me to be too.
  • I’m easily distra– hey what’s that?

I actually wrote something in here about the war, and the state of things in general. But somehow I lost it, so instead you get this post.

Also, a note about the Moab part below: Possibility of a few cracked ribs was the diagnosis. Meaning: take it easy, Paul.

March 29

Paul fell today. Hard. I hope his kidneys are OK. He seems to think so, he’s more worried about his ribs. But he’s waiting to get home before going to a dr. I wish I knew the signs of internal bleeding, because my brain is jumping to the worst conclusions.

The trail we were riding though! Ah! I guess people call it a ‘classic’ Moab trail, now I see why. It has a really diverse terrain (sand, bumpy, slickrock, hardpacked dirt, etc), and it climbs up this canyon and gives the most spectacular view. (Yes, fotos soon).

The downhill is awesome. Other than the Paul-falling part (say that 5 times fast). He tried to take a jump from a ledge, to a boulder, then to the ground. He hit the boulder and everything went awry. Legs in the air, bike flying the other way. It kept him slow the rest of the way down. That sucks, because I know he wanted to shred around on the way down.

Maybe ride tomorrow before we leave (ack! so soon!), if Paul’s owie is A LOT better. Otherwise we’ll chill and check out the town some more. Note to self: get mom’s bday present.
