The rain deters me from doing anything active, like riding my bike. It also leads me to sit indoors, in front of my computer. My parents have always smoked inside, so when I moved back this last time, I too smoked inside. Which means, I smoke inside, especially when I’m sipping tea or coffee in front of this screen.
I spent some time at this site today. These are some things I learned or was reminded of: After 72 hours, your body is free of nicotine. 72 hours is also when the cravings have peaked and start to decline. After only 10 days, lung capacity has increased substantially (the longer you’ve ‘been quit’, the more capacity increases). NRTs (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) have not been shown to be all that effective. Quitting cold-turkey, but educated, has the best success rate (quitting for 6+ months). Nicotine is more addictive than cocaine and, possibly, heroin. The brain builds more receptors for nicotine if you’ve been a smoker for a long time.
So I’m sure my brain is almost all nicotine receptors. Seriously. I’ve been smoking off-and-on for about 8 years, consistently for about 5. And I’m only 23. You do that math, I started young.
Next, I will make 2 lists. One will be reasons to quit, the other will be things I can do instead of smoking.
